Crocmedia has secured the radio broadcast rights for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup, as well as the Australian national cricket team's upcoming tour of India.
Broadcast across 1116 SEN, SEN+, 1629 SEN SA and other DAB+ platforms, the deal includes the rights for the entire World Cup tournament, as well as the five ODIs and two T20 internationals in India.
The deal for Australia's tour of India was secured in partnership with Sports Flashes, an Indian multi-sports digital content platform.
“We were thrilled to add cricket to our summer sports line-up this year – headed by our Chief Sports Caller Gerard Whateley - who also led our coverage of the much-discussed Aussies’ 2018 tour of South Africa,” Crocmedia executive director Chris Giannopoulos said.
“Cricket on the radio is part of the fabric of the Australian sporting culture and we look forward to expanding our live coverage through the upcoming Aussie tour in India and the ICC Cricket World Cup.”
The ICC Cricket Wold Cup is also expected to be the first major tournament to included disgraced Australian cricket stars Steve Smith and David Warner.
Last year, Macquarie Media won and also sub-licensed the production of its BBL coverage nationally to Crocmedia.
The deal saw Crocmedia become the only provider of Big Bash radio coverage for all 59 matches this summer and cover all BBL matches for the next six years, exclusively across regional Australia.
Crocmedia’s Big Bash Nation broadcasts will also be syndicated to partner radio stations across the country.
The business also secured a 25% stake in the National Basketball League (NBL) 2018 Champions, Melbourne United.
In an Australian basketball first, NBL owner Larry Kestelman agreed to sell a portion of his majority shareholding in the club to Crocmedia, now joint major shareholders of the club. Kestelman will retain a 25% share.
