The Advertising Council Australia (ACA) released the findings of its Create Space Report & Action Plan - a comprehensive review into diversity and inclusion across Australia’s advertising industry.
The data comes from the Create Space Census in December 2021, which attracted 2,600 responses from advertising professionals across the sector.
Tony Hale, CEO, Advertising Council Australia: "The advertising industry has always been very inclusive by nature, offering opportunities for different people, different pathways, and being accepting of different opinions, values and approaches to the way that we do work. But we also know that as an industry, we’re not perfect.
"There have been some black spots in our history and some blind spots that have marred our progress. If the industry is to continue to be truly inclusive, we need to be vigilant in moving with the times and setting minimum accepted standards.
Create Space has been brilliant in providing us with robust data for the very first time, which helps us to set our future DE&I strategy and ensure that we remain relevant and open to new people and ways of working in the future.
"At the beginning of what is set to be a long-term initiative, it gives us three clear action points to start addressing key issues linked to gender, mental health, and negative behaviours seen across the sector.
"In launching the Create Space Report and Action Plan, we must recognise that this is not the finishing line but the starting line for a better, stronger and more inclusive advertising industry."
