News Corp's The Courier Mail is under fire for its headline yesterday about missing woman Stephanie Scott. The paper used the headline “Bride and Seek” to describe the search for the missing woman.

Scott was due to be married this weekend, and has been missing since Easter Sunday. Yesterday the news broke that a 24-year-old cleaner at Leeton High School, where Scott worked, had been charged with her murder.

People took to twitter to slam the paper for its headline with one user saying: “A woman is killed every three days in Australia. @couriermail's coverage is disgracefully insensitive and dismissive.”

Prominent ABC journalist Sally Sara tweeted: “Was this @couriermail headline for real? Bloody hell.”

The Press Council this morning confirmed to AdNews that it had received a complaint about the item in question.

This isn't the first time the paper has caused outrage for its coverage of violence against women with the paper previously referring to a murdered transgender women as a “shemale”.

News Corp declined to comment.
