GOLD COAST: The Queensland Goverment has unveiled a branding push to spearhead its bid for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, with the release of a new brand logo.
The push, led by strategy-based creative agency Engine Group, aims to symbolise the Gold Coast's energy.
Premier Anna Bligh, who is Queensland's premier and minister for the Arts, launched the branding campaign alongside athletes Lyndsie Fogarty, Alex Beck, Sara Carrigan, Dylan Grant, Morgan McCallister and Otis Gowa.
"This logo captures the energy of the Gold Coast in a blast of colour," Bligh said. "Thw Gold Coast sun is clearly present in the logo made up of 72 dots to represent each commonwealth country.
"Colours in the logo represent the golden sand, blue water, green hinterland and red sunsets of the Gold Coast as well as the colours of the competing nations flags."
Queensland will formally submit a bid in May 2011, and the host city will be announced in November 2011.
