Coles is running full-page ads in newspapers to introduce a limit on toilet paper, following widespread panic-buying.

As fears around coronavirus escalate, people across Australia have been stockpiling items such as toilet paper, rice and pasta - against the advice of most experts.

It has resulted in shortages of some items, particularly toilet paper, forcing supermarkets to introduce limits on the amount customers can buy.

After limiting each customer to four packs last week, Coles has used a full-page newspaper ad to further limit it to one pack per customer per shop.

“We have therefore made the decision to change the limit to one pack per customer so that toilet paper is available for more of our customers, particularly the elderly and people who are unable to purchase in large volumes,” Coles Group CEO Steven Cain wrote in the ad.

“We have asked our suppliers to focus on increasing production of larger pack sizes and we are prioritising the delivery of these packs to our stores, as a pack of 30 rolls should last an average family for around three weeks.”

The ad was placed in News Corp, Fairfax and The West Australian newspapers.
