Australian cinemas threw open their doors to the public today.

They've been closed since March 24 as social distancing rules came into force in response to the coronavirus crisis.

To mark the reopening, Guy Burbidge, managing director of Val Morgan Cinema Network, released a statement: "Val's back."

This is an tribute to the “I’m back" statement by Michael Jordan in 1995, announcing his return to the NBA.

It was all he needed to say.

The cinema reopening, to coincide with school holidays, will see the release of the thriller, Tenet, and Disney’s live-action Mulan.

Movies coming July-December include Wonder Woman 1984, Black Widow, No Time to Die and Peter Rabbit 2.

A survey by Event Cinemas of more 20,000 active cinema-goers showed 94% of respondents intend to visit frequently, if not more often, than they did previously.
