Brisbane agencies battle for Queensland tourism media planning contract

Brisbane agencies are vying for media planning contract of one of the Queensland's more prestigious accounts, Tourism and Events Queensland, AdNews understands.

UM looks after media planning on the account and MediaCom carries out media buying.

Measured annual billings is $6 million, according to Nielsen, although total billings are believed to be closer to the $10 million mark.

AdNews understands that only the media planning part of the account is out to open tender. This includes above the line, below the line planning across Australia and New Zealand as well as media buying in New Zealand, which can be carried out through an affiliate agency.

It also includes social media and SEM planning and implemention in Australia and New Zeland.

The tender submissions closing date is 22 March, shortlist notifications will be sent out on 7 April and the winner will be announced on the week commencing 25 June.

The government agency, which promotes tourism in the sunshine state, is highly coveted and likely to interest a wide range of Brisbane agencies.

Tourism is one of the largest industry sectors in the state, with the potential to generate $34 billion by 2025 and support more than 100,000 additional jobs.

Recently, J. Walter Thompson released creative for its first Tourism and Events Queensland campaign, 'I Know Just The Place'. The agnecy won a creative pitch for the account last year.
