Ben Shepherd, in his newsletter Signal, looks at the fallout from 95% of featured actors in AU produced ads being white, the direction of online retail, plus the Amazon and Google antitrust cases
Adgile founder Shaun Lohman posted data on his Linkedin showing the diversity of actors in Australian advertising based on the most frequently seen ads that have run in September of 2023.
What he found was 95% of featured talent on Australian produced ads was white.
For non Australian produced ads this figure was 75%. And overall 86% of all ads on Australian TV have white featured talent. The white population in Australia, according to Lohman’s data is 75%.
