Bauer Media has sold Australian Geographic to Northern Pictures.
The entire Australian Geographic team, including publisher and editor-in-chief Chrissie Goldrick, will move to Northern Pictures, which is a Sydney documentary production company.
Bauer Media CEO Paul Dykzeul says the sale is "consistent" with Bauer's strategy of refocusing its resources and investment on core segments, which include women’s entertainment and lifestyle, homes, food, fashion, health and beauty, motoring and trader.
"I'm delighted that the magazine and its staff are going to a home that is so passionate about documenting Australian landscapes, wildlife and adventure. I thank all staff who have worked on Australian Geographic and wish them and the new owners every success," he says.
Northern Pictures MD Peter Anderson adds “It’s a great honour for us to bring the most iconic Australian nature, wildlife and outdoor magazine into our fold. We are very confident we will be able to help the very talented editorial staff at Australian Geographic deliver even more great content through the magazine, the website, social media and books and we look forward to expanding the brand into TV and film.
In the past 18 months, Bauer has sold five of its adventure titles and closed several magazines, including Rugby League Week and most recently, Homes+, Recipes+ and Yours.
