Bachelor in Paradise finale down over 300,000 viewers

Ten's second season of Bachelor in Paradise has wrapped up with over 300,000 viewers less than its first season finale, drawing in 454,000 metro viewers overnight.

Last year's Bachelor in Paradise finale drew in an audience of 774,000 overnight metro viewers.

The series, which has struggled to keep above the 500,000 viewer mark throughout the second season, came to a close last night, airing a grand finale and 'tell-all'.

The tell-all segment, which was a return for the Bachelor franchise, saw the contestants return to discuss the series. The episode drew 417,000 metro viewers.

A reason for this could be the decision by Ten to air the finale in the evening timeslot as opposed to primetime. The show was also up 15% in broadcast video on demand viewing for the season.

Ten's reality cooking show MasterChef took out the top spot in the primetime slot overnight, drawing in 680,000 viewers. The show returned this week for its 11th season.

MasterChef ran unopposed by any of the other major network's tent pole reality programs, including Nine's Lego Masters and Seven's House Rules.

Nine's coverage of Thursday Night Football between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Brisbane Broncos drew in equal numbers to the Bachelor in Paradise tell all episode. The game acted as a "farewell" for Rugby League great and South Sydney captain Greg Inglis.

In the overnight main channel battle, Seven managed to come out on top, despite the lack of a tentpole program in primetime. Seven secured a 20.1% overall share, with Nine coming in second with 17.8% and Ten following in third with 15.6%.

Sunday night will see Seven, Nine and Ten go head-to-head in the 7:30pm slot, with House Rules, Lego Masters and MasterChef all airing.
