The NRL Grand Final outrated the AFL's final last week, while gossip about the Bachelor and Sam Frost's break up helped The Project almost double its audience from last week.

Monday night's premiere of Party Tricks and headlines about The Bachelor helping The Project into second place for the evening.

Network Ten's The Project featured interviews with bachelor Blake Garvey and spurned fiancee Sam Frost, who each gave separate interviews about their ill-fated romance.

With selectively leaked headlines about Frost calling Garvey a jackass fuelling a media frenzy, and possible pregnancy rumours floating around, the exclusive interviews with the pair on he Project boosted Ten's ratings.

It managed to pull in 1.19 million viewers, and while it wasn't enough to knock off The Block with 1.48 million viewers, it did achieve viewer growth of over 82% compared with last Monday's offering of 651,000.

Meanwhile premiering on Ten was Party Tricks, the new Asher Keddie drama with heavy social media components. While it pulled in 710,000 viewers for the night in metro areas, it did trend at number two in Australia on Twitter.

Also premiering for Ten was the new season of Homeland, fast-tracked from the US. However the double-episode failed to catch fire, landing outside the top 20 shows for the night.

The other big news on the weekend was the NRL Grand Final, played on Sunday night.

Bosses at NRL headquarters will be smiling this morning, with newly-released OZTam ratings having the game's showpiece pulling in higher metro numbers than the AFL Grand Final.

The clash between the Rabbitohs and the Bulldogs pulled in 2.49 million viewers on Sunday night, with 1.13 million of those coming from Sydney.

The AFL Grand Final a week previosuly pulled in a metro audience of 2.17 million.

While there was a 15.5% drop off in numbers post-AFL Grand Final, the post-match presentation managed to keep more viewers, only suffering a 3.5% drop off after the game.

The public holiday on Monday (6 October) on the eastern seaboard, is likely to have encouraged more viewers to stick through the entire match and post-match presentation.

The NRL Grand Final helped Nine to a 43.1% share for the evening, with nearest rival Seven managing a 24.9% share of the viewers on Sunday night.
