Australia's Got Talent's return to screens last night drew 814,000 metro viewers for Seven, however, the show was unable to knock Nine's Australian Ninja Warrior out of the top spot.

The reality talent show, which had been off-air since 2016, returned to original broadcaster Seven this year, after two seasons with Nine last night.

Hosted by Ricki Lee and featuring a celebrity line-up including singer Nicole Scherzinger, actor Shane Jacobson, celebrity chef Manu Feildel and actress Lucy Durack, the show managed to find second place in Sunday's primetime race.

The show went over one million when it came to combined metro and regional ratings, drawing a national audience of 1.27m.

Despite the reasonable ratings, Seven failed to topple Nine's ongoing streak of 7.30pm dominance, with Ninja Warrior continuing its run of ratings success, as last night's episode drew 1.15 million metro viewers.

Combined ratings saw Ninja reach over 1.5m viewers nationally, with a total audience slightly more than 1.6m.

Ten's Australia Survivor, which kicked off last week in the number one position for primetime, slid to third among the commercial networks, drawing in 562,000 metro viewers and 709,000 nationally.

Nine's Ninja success led the network to victory in the main channel battle, carving out a 25.1% audience share. Seven followed in second place, with a 21.8% share.

Ten was unable to hold onto third place, falling below double digits and behind the ABC (which had a 12.4% share), taking a 9.6% main channel audience share.
