Australia's 20 biggest digital advertisers of 2022

Foxtel was the top digital ad spender this year, spending a total of $51,450,700 for the year to date, according to data from Pathmatics and parent brand Sensor Tower. 

Foxtel was followed by Yum! Brands ($33,043,700) and Woolworths ($30,694,600).

Woolworth’s main competitor Coles had less of a digital presence this year, ranking in 11th place with a total digital ad spend of $19,241,900. 

Considering significant telco controversy this year, including the recent Optus data breach, Telstra maintained strong visibility with a total digital ad spend of $30,378,500 (fourth). 

For the top 20 app downloads in 2022, My GovID was the most downloaded app for 2022, with a total of 3,392,000 app downloads. 

TikTok and BeReal proved to be the most popular social media apps, with TikTok in third and BeReal in seventh place, ahead of both Facebook and Instagram. 

Retailer SHEIN entered the top 20 downloaded apps in the 18th position - the only retailer to make the list, while Wordle! placed in 12th position, gaining significant popularity in the months following the New York Times’ takeover of the original Wordle game.
