Australia Day 2024 honours for media industry figures

The 2024 Australia Day honours list features media industry figures with awards made under the Order of Australia.

Among them is television presenter Sandra Sully, with more than 34 years at 10. She also spent 10 years on the board of directors of Hockey Australia, serving as vice president. 

And David Koch, the chairman of Pinstripe Media, with more than 20 years at Seven as co-host of Sunrise.

Both have been appointed Members of the Order of Australia (AM).

Amanda Gome, the former CEO of Private Media and the founder of SmartCompany, is also made an AM.

Penny Fowler, chairman, Herald & Weekly Times, appointed AM for "significant service to the community". 

"The Good Friday Appeal ­(Royal Children’s Hospital) really represents what I am passionate about; everyone giving a little bit to make a difference to the hospital and for sick children,” she told The Australian.

Chris Pash, the editor of AdNews, has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the “media and communications” sector.

Ms Margaret FINK   NSW For distinguished service to the arts as a film and television producer, and as a supporter of the visual arts community.

Member of the Order of Australia (AM)

Mr Steven Graeme HARRIS VIC For significant service to print journalism.

Ms Amanda GOME   Elwood VIC 3184 For significant service to media, to business, and to women.

Mr David James KOCH For significant service to media as a television presenter, and to economic journalism.

Mr David Damien PARER   VIC For distinguished service to wildlife cinematography, to literature as an author, and to the environment.

Ms Sandra Lee SULLY For significant service to the media, to charitable organisations, and to the community.

Mr Robert James MASTERS VIC For significant service the marketing and communications sector, and to charitable organisations.

Mrs Penelope (Penny) Anne FOWLER VIC (Chairman, Herald & Weekly Times) For significant service to the community through a range of organisations. Good Friday Appeal chair, raising funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Mrs Majida ABBOUD-SAAB   NSW For service to the Arab community, and to the media.

Mr Victor ALHADEFF   NSW For service to the Jewish community, and to the media.

Mr Francis (Frank) Neville AVIS   Oakhurst NSW 2761 For service to broadcast media, particularly radio.

Ms Fiona BAMFORD-BRACHER   VIC For service to community radio.

Mr Craig BENNETT   Surfers Paradise QLD 4217 For service to broadcast media as an entertainment journalist.

Mr Wayne Geoffrey BUTTNER   Rippleside VIC 3215 For service to the print media, and to the community.

Miss Gail Margaret EASTAWAY   Cooma NSW 2630 For service to the print media, and to the community.

Ms Denise HYLANDS   Newport VIC 3015 For service to community radio.

Ms Kathleen LETCH   Preston VIC 3072 For service to the broadcast media, particularly to community radio.

Mr Daniel Michael OAKES VIC For service to journalism.

Mr Christopher Allen PASH   Neutral Bay NSW 2089 For service to the media and communications sector.

Mr Peter Charles WATERMAN   Griffith ACT 2603 For service to the media as a journalist.

Ms Jennifer WOODWARD   QLD For service to the broadcast media, particularly to television.
