The 2023 Australia Day honours list features media industry figures among the 1,047 recipients of honours:
Leading advertising industry figure Bill Murihead has been upgraded to an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) after being appointed a member (AM) in 2013.
The Adelaide-born adman received the honour for distinguished service to the business sector, to the community of South Australia, and to international relations.
He is a founding partner and executive director of London-based M&C Saatchi and a former agent general for South Australia in the UK.
Journalist and Liberal Party politician Pru Goward was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to the people and Parliament of New South Wales and to women's affairs.
The former Federal Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Executive Director, Office of the Status of Women, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, was the state Member for Goulburn (2007-2019) and Family and Community Services Minister in the state government.
Before that she was with the Australian Financial Review, Sydney Morning Herald, the presenter of Daybreak, ABC Radio National, Canberra, and political correspondent, 7:30 Report, ABC Television.

Dr Elizabeth (Liz) Ann BYRSKI. For significant service to tertiary education and to literature. She is a Life Member, Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance, and the Australian Society of Authors.
Jean KITTSON. For significant service to the arts as a performer, writer and comedian.
Dr Norman Gabriel SWAN. For significant service to the broadcast media as a science and health commentator. Broadcaster and Journalist, Science and Health, since 1982. Producer and Presenter, The Health Report.
Philip Stretton WILLIAMS. For significant service to the broadcast media as a presenter and journalist. Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
OAM (Order of Australia Medal)
Colin McLaurin CAMERON. For service to the broadcast media, and to the community. General Manager, Waringarri Media Aboriginal Corporation 6WR, Western Australia, 2002-2010.
