Australia Day 2022 honours for media industry figures

The 2022 Australia Day honours list features media industry figures in television, radio and newspapers. 

John Hartigan, a former News Ltd CEO and Prime Media chairman, is made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO). 

He started his career as a 16-year-old in newspapers and went on to be founding editor of The Daily Sun newspaper in Brisbane and then editor and editor-in-chief of The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph. 

Tony Walker, a former foreign correspondent (Australian Financial Review and the Financial Times), is a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). 

Seven News presenter Jane Doyle has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM). 

Peter Ryan, the ABC’s senior business correspondent, also gets an OAM: "Honoured and humbled to receive an OAM this Australia Day for my longevity in broadcast media. Quite a journey from Daily Mirror copyboy days in Sydney 42 year ago in a world of hot metal, typewriters and lots of shouting."

Mr Antony Howard WALKER Barwon Heads VIC 3227 For significant service to the media as a journalist, and to the community.

OAM
Mrs Jane DOYLE SA For service to the broadcast media, particularly to television, and to the community.

Mrs Caroline Marcelle HUTCHINSON Alexandra Headland QLD 4572 For service to the radio broadcast media

Mr John MARTIN Lilyfield NSW 2040 For service to radio broadcast media.

Mr Billy PINNELL Yarraville VIC 3013 For service to radio broadcast media.

Mr Peter RYAN Wollstonecraft NSW 2065 For service to the broadcast media as a journalist.

Mr Ronald Charles SMITH Kew VIC 3101 For service to the media and communications sector.
