Aussie Ashes victory draws 810,000 viewers for 9Gem

Australia's nail-biting game four Ashes victory has secured Nine's multichannel 9Gem its highest rated evenings to date, with session one drawing in 810,000 metro viewers.

Overnight, Australia defeated England to retain the coveted Ashes, one of the top titles in international test Cricket.

Coming into the fifth day Australia had England on the ropes, and despite some solid batting partnerships, the latter were ultimately bowled out in the last session at Old Trafford.

A further 303,000 regional viewers also tuned in for the clash, giving the multichannel's coverage of the game a total 1.11 million viewers nationally.

With an overnight total share of 17.8% on 9Gem, The Ashes helped the channel once again record the highest share for a multichannel in ratings history.

The coverage of the day's lunch and session two also drew a further 571,000 and 477,000 metro viewers, respectively.

On the main channels, Nine also won in primetime, with Sunday's episode of The Block drawing 1.14m metro viewers and a total national audience of 1.57m.

Seven's Australia's Got Talent drew in 700,000 metro viewers and a further 1.12m nationally.
