MELBOURNE: ANZ managing director of strategy and marketing, David Lindberg, has parted company with the bank to join rival Commonwealth Bank.

Lindberg is to become executive general manager for cards, payments and retail strategy at Commonwealth Bank from October.

Commonwealth Bank chief marketing officer, Mark Buckman, told AdNews the new role will not sit in the existing marketing team.

In his new role, Lindberg will reporting to Commonwealth Bank group executive retail banking service, Ross McEwan. He will be responsible for strategy and business development, retail payments innovation and credit cards.

The newly created role is an extension of that held by Stephen Karpin who was recently appointed to the role of managing director of CommSec.

At ANZ, Lindberg was responsible for leading strategy and marketing for the bank's retail, commercial and wealth business.

Prior to his appointment at ANZ in October 2008, Lindberg was vice president and head of Australiasia for First Manhatten Consulting Group.

Last month ANZ appointed Kathy Hatzis, the former head of multi-brand strategy and architecture at Westpac, as head of brand and sponsorship.

A spokesperson from ANZ confirmed Lindberg's departure but would not comment further.
