AFL Grand Final attracts more than 3m metro viewers

Saturday night’s AFL Grand Final attracted more than three million metro viewers.

The match, which saw Melbourne beat the Western Bulldogs, was played during primetime, rather than its traditional daytime slot, giving it a boost in TV ratings.

3.01 million metro viewers tuned in for the match, according to OzTam ratings. The national viewership was 3.91 million, making it the most watched program for the year so far. Last year, the Grand Final attracted about 2.98 million metro viewers.

Seven News and Nine News followed the AFL in ratings with 1.11 million metro viewers each.

The Rugby League semi finals on Nine attracted 810,000 metro viewers.

For people aged 18-49, the AFL Grand Final attracted 1.28 million metro viewers, followed by the AFL Grand Final: Presentations with 1.13 million metro viewers, and then the AFL Grand Final: On the Ground with 917,000 metro viewers.

For people aged 25-54, the AFL Grand Final pulled in 1.34 million metro viewers, followed by the AFL Grand Final: Presentations with 1.17 million metro viewers, and then the AFL Grand Final: On the Ground with 980,000 metro viewers.

Seven won the night with 65.8% of network share, followed by Nine with 16% and Ten with 7.7%.
