The ABC and its former managing director Michelle Guthrie have reached a confidential settlement over the unfair dismissal case.
Guthrie brought forward the case last October after she was sacked from the national broadcaster half way through her term, claiming the ABC “had no reason to trigger the termination clause”.
At the time when Guthrie made the complaint to the Fair Work Commission, the ABC maintained she was dismissed because the board had lost confidence in her.
The settlement between Guthrie and the ABC remains confidential, with the ABC releasing a statement saying both parties are “pleased” to announce a resolution.
“The ABC and its former Managing Director, Michelle Guthrie, are pleased to announce a resolution to their Federal Court litigation,” the ABC said in a statement.
Her departure was followed by a public fight between herself and ABC chair Justin Milne who also left the media company over the tensions.
A key issue between the two was claims of political interference in the ABC’s journalism, which Guthrie claims played a role in her sacking.
Following the tumultuous few months at the ABC, its new chair was confirmed last week as media stalwart Ita Buttrose.
Buttrose began her career in magazines, with experience as editor at both Cleo and The Women’s Weekly.
With the appointment of Buttrose, Guthrie's replacement is soon to be filled.
