Meet the “activist cider” from Fog City.

Victoria-based brewery East 9th Brewing is donating a percentage of the proceeds from its recently launched 'The People vs' range of Fog City Activist Cider to refugees.

Known as the “activist cider”, Fog City aims to protest against “the injustices of Australia’s bigoted politicians, laws and prejudices", and even boasts a label dedicated to controversial One Nation Senator Pauline Hanson which says: "I’d Swap Pauline For A Refugee".

The cider's packaging features a collection of politically charged statements, including, “Legalise the green hempire strikes back”, “Still hate Tony Abbott” and “shut-up government of course it's a yes to gay marriage”.

The idea behind the campaign is to “keep the bastards honest,” says East 9th founders Josh Lefers, Stephen Wools and Benjamin Cairns.

“We are a national company, who wanted to talk about the damning issues that are affecting Australians, and people trying to come to Australia. These labels reflect our opinions and beliefs and we’d like to think that it’s also a reflection of many others people’s too,” Lefers says.

“Our latest slogan 'Shut Up Govt. Of Course It’s A Yes to Gay Marriage’, talks to human rights and the ability for anyone to make their own decisions about who they want to spend the rest of their life with, no matter what their gender,” he adds.

The cider is available online and can be purchased nationally.

“We were hanging out telling stories to each other about the activists from San Fran in the 70s, activists who inspired us by challenging the powers-that-be through positive protest and through living alternative lifestyles," he says.

“It’s ridiculous right-wing policies like these that create a terrible energy in the world, and hopefully there’s a lot of people with us on this one,” Lefers says.
