Qantas customers will be able to access the experience on select flights and in lounges.
Qantas has teamed up with Sydney-based Rapid VR, developers of 360 degree virtual reality (VR) content, to create a Great Barrier Reef experience (a good thing, no doubt, given the World Heritage Committee is closely monitoring the reef for the next four years because of ongoing threats to its existence).
Hamilton Island and Samsung came on board to produce the new VR film, which has been made available in select Qantas international lounges and flights, where it can be viewed through the Samsung Gear VR headset. It is also available for online streaming via YouTube and 360 video site Vrideo, and as an app on the Gear VR's Oculus Store, and Android and iOS devices.
“We are incredibly proud of the content we captured for one of the most iconic experiences and destinations in the world – and equally proud to be at the forefront, pushing the boundaries of a growing industry,” said Rapid VR executive producer Susannah DiLallo.
