Celebrities such as comedian Tom Ballard and actress Jess Tovey have joined the campaign to welcome refugees and asylum seekers.
The #CreateWelcome campaign, from outdoor company Goa and independent multicultural organisation MDA has reached more than one million people through Instagram alone.
The project aims to support asylum seekers and refugees through the creation of an online Welcome Wall, sharing positive messages for newly arrived Queenslanders.
In addition, anyone can get involved by purchasing a WelcomeKit from the Create Welcome website to build their own welcome message. There are also several #CreateWelcome Social Booths which can be found at various sporting, cultural and lifestyle events, allowing messages to be uploaded via Instagram.
The best messages are displayed on Goa's billboard network, which reaches 85% of South East Queensland.
Celebrities are also getting involved including Ballard, Tovey, writer Benjamin Law, Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young and several others, using their social media influence to support the project.
Goa CEO Chris Tyquin says: "Goa has provided its network of multimedia billboard technology to support a positive social environment in Queensland, create an inclusive community and promote welcome from citizens.
"Through our efforts, along with those of our profile partners and MDA, over one million people have been reached. We couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome."
MDA CEO Kerrin Benson says: "It’s up to the community to shift the narrative. This campaign is providing people with opportunities to take constructive action themselves."
The campaign is planned to continue into 2017.
