The Canadian sprinter is used sparingly in a spot to promote The Fold but stars in a weird video celebrating Puntmas.
Sportsbet has launched a spot promoting a new feature called The Fold. It allows punters to cancel one bet (on the nose) per day at selected racecourses.
The ad, by BMF, features disgraced Canadian sprinter runner Ben Johnson at the very end.
The feature is designed to help punters leave a bet mid-race if your horse is running like a donkey or very wide.
Sportsbet have also released a 'Puntmas' video to accompany the ad. This stars the former Seoul Olympics gold medalist (for 48 hours) telling the story of Puntmas.
AdNews quite enjoyed the completely bizarre and pointless nature of the video and the cheeky nod to 'speed dealers', Sydney slang for wrap around sunglasses worn by that speed dealing 'mate' back in the late 90s and early Noughties.
The bit about Yusuf is completely lost on this publication, but AdNews is quietly hoping Sportsbet revitalises Charlie the Unicorn with Johnson in future installments of racing-focused ads.
