Network Ten’s executive rover Russel Howcroft is one of at least three adland types being considered to join the on-screen team for the Woolworths-backed return series of Recipe to Riches.

It is understood at least three adland figures are in the frame to replace Droga5’s David Nobay, who will not return for the second series. It is still unknown who the others are.

“Russel is in the frame but a few others are too," said one TV executive aware of the moves. “He’s one of a few names. He’s got to be the best person for the job.”

Rival network executives said Howcroft’s involvement might create some tension with Ten’s other cooking show, MasterChef, backed by Coles. They quipped if Howcroft was to get the gig it would help shore-up his credentials as “broadcast man”.

Ten is already casting for contestants for Recipe to Riches in which industry professionals choose which new home-grown products get a chance at national distribution through Woolworths supermarkets.

It is understood there has been a surge in public interest after Ten made its call for contestants for recipe ideas.

Howcroft was also mooted as a likely panelist for Ten’s The Project but it has not yet eventuated and Ten insiders have said that speculation had proven to be horribly wrong.
