Soccerball! How to market the Premier League to Americans

It's an ad about football, both the soccer and gridiron varieties. If you're an English expat, you might find this particularly amusing. For everyone else, it's still a must-see as Jason Sudeikis hams it up for NBC.

Sudeikis, best known for his 10-year tenure on Saturday Night Live and as Floyd on 30 Rock, plays Coach Lasso, that well-meaning but not-so-bright American archetype the rest of the world loves to laugh at.

Lasso has arrived in Old Blighty as the new coach of Tottenham Hotspur. But he needs to brush up on the differences between soccer and gridiron.

Naively optimistic at the beginning, Lasso declared: “Football is football no matter where you play it. Football in the States is my specialty but they have a different kind of football over here.” Before long, he's confronted by the myriad differences such as quarters versus halves, tie games, no play-offs, tackling and the attire, which leads him to ask "why do you even do this?".

Soccerball. It's a funny old game.

The ad is from US network NBC to promote its coverage of the Premier League.
