Shadow Minister for Climate Action, Environment and Heritage, Greg Hunt.

Shadow Environment Minister Greg Hunt has called for the abolishment of the $25 million carbon tax campaign and believes Prime Minister Julia Gillard should apologise to the public for launching it last Sunday.

Hunt labelled the millions which will be spent by the Federal Labor government on the campaign as unjustified and a momumental waste of taxpayer money.

"The campaign does not address the additional costs that the carbon tax will bring to Australians, such as a $515 increase in the cost of living," Hunt told AdNews.

Support for the carbon tax continues to slide. According to Roy Morgan, 62% of Australians say the carbon tax will have no impact on global carbon emissions, while 75% don't want carbon price to go higher.

Only 37% of Australians support the Gillard Government's carbon tax, while 58% do not.
