A new online ad showing how Prime Minister Julia Gillard may look in 40 years time has been launched by PETA in a protest against live exports.
The ad which says 'Change the Future. Moving Forward: It's Time to Ban Live Export', suggests that if the governmental fails to ban live exports, 160 million sheep and cattle will suffer and die over the next 40 years on ships and in overseas abattoirs.
While the campaign is currently online on their website and will spread through social networking sites, PETA will look toward print advertisements in the near future. The ad was created in-house by PETA.
AdNews recently reported on the controversy over live exports which was publicised after images of animals tortured in Indonesian abattoirs were shown on ABC and further torture that was revealed in Turkey.
PETA director of campaigns Jason Baker said: “Gillard's and the government's actions to protect sheep and cattle from the horrors of live export have been virtually non-existent. If Ms Gillard continues to turn her back on this national embarrassment, in 40 year's, her legacy will be stained by the blood of 160 million animals whose intense pain and suffering could easily have been avoided.”
PETA has recently created headlines with a protest against Fox8 program Australia's Next Top Model and a racy cover shoot of Ruby Rose for Maxim magazine.
