Westpac confirmed today Aegis Media has pulled out of the $70 million media tender process along with the joint bid involving Aegis-owned Vizeum and Razor Media.

Aegis Media Pacific executive chairman Harold Mitchell would not comment on the move.

“I’ll leave all that to Westpac,” he told AdNews. “I only comment on matters about the world.”

Westpac said in a statement to AdNews: “Westpac confirms that Aegis, including agencies within the Aegis group, have independently withdrawn from the media buying pitch process.”

The bank would not comment on the reason for the surprise withdrawal, but industry speculation had the two Aegis bids pulling out early because it may not have performed strongly during the pitch process.

The decision is now down to incumbent OMD, Mediacom and UM.
