ARN has confirmed speculation Kyle Sandilands and Jackie Henderson, known as Kyle and Jackie O, will join its revamped 1065 station next year.
The controversial radio breakfast duo, who has held the number one FM position in Sydney over the last 51 consecutive surveys, resigned from Southern Cross Austereo earlier this month. It was reported that contract disputes were the cause of the parting. This morning was the pair's last show on the 2Day network.
“Kyle and Jackie is one the world's biggest radio shows, and are joined every day by the world's biggest stars,” ARN chief executive Ciaran Davis said. “It's unprecedented to have the country's #1 radio team move networks to create a brand new station and we couldn't be happier that they've made this switch with us.
David spruiked that with Sandilands and Henderson joining the team, the network should have Sydney's two “best breakfast shows”, the other being WSFM's Jonesy and Amanda.
ARN national content director Duncan Campbell added: “Kyle and Jackie are immense talent with a huge and loyal fan base who are going to be thrilled to be waking up with their favourite presenters on a new, energetic and entertaining station next year. It's a fresh start.”
In the main, Sandilands and Henderson are associated with a series of controversies including an incident in which an under-age girl had been strapped to a lie detector and another in which Sandilands threatened a News Limited journalist and called her "a fat slag" for criticising his TV performance.
A move to ARN has been speculated in the press with commentators questioning the fit between the divisive pair and the 'easy listening' brand of 106.5. ARN will rebrand the station to 1065 and released the video below on YouTube to tease the new identity.
