Woolworths has looked close to home for its new general manager of marketing. The firm has hired Jess Gill, head of marketing strategy at consultancy Growth Mantra, which has worked closely with the retailer for the last two years.
Gill will take up the role immediately and report to Woolworths managing director Tjeerd Jegen.
She has more than 20 years experience in marketing, research, innovation and strategic planning across firms including Macquarie Bank, Telstra and TBWA.
Jegen said in a statement about the appointment: “Retail marketing is an extremely fast paced, dynamic space that requires a strategic mind, steady hand and cut through creative flair to reach our customers in a highly competitive environment. Jess is the right person for the crucial role. One of our biggest focusses right now is marketing and Jess was the right person to lead the team.”
Woolworths is ramping up the way it uses data in marketing and recently bought a 50% stake in data analytics firm Quantium which runs its Everyday Rewards programme.
