GPY&R turns defence into attack with situation vacant ad

GPY&R Melbourne has taken a junior page ad in today's Australian Financial Review but the firm is not hiring. Instead, the agency is touting its skills to new clients following the loss of its biggest client, Defence Force, last week, and warns CEOs and marketing directors to expect a call.

The ad suggests GPY&R sees losing the account as an opportunity, "because we can now offer our brand of brilliant, modern advertising to someone new".

GPY&R also wished Havas Worldwide, which won the tender "the best of luck... You'll need it".

The account win was published on the Defence Force website last week. It is not clear whether GPY&R had been told that it had lost the account before the statement was posted.

As it enters a four month handover period, the agency will need to quickly pick up another big account to keep its headcount and revenues aligned.
