Google, E-Web Marketing, Ikon Communications, MediaCom, OMD and Adconion have all made the cut for BRW's annual Best Places to Work list.
The list of 50 companies, now in its fourth year, was compiled this year from a record number of participants: 291 workplaces and 68,005 employees. All public and private companies - including multinational branch offices, non-profit organisations, associations and government bodies - with 35 or more full-time or part-time staff can enter.
Google Australia, with company perks including free meditation classes and stress counsellors, free meals, in-house talks with financial planners and accountants and on-site healthcare services, has come in at third place on the list.
“Information technology companies have again dominated the top of our list,” said BRW's editor Kate Mills. “With competition for staff so fierce in this sector they have to ensure they go above and beyond to capture the best candidates.”
Media agencies also performed well, with Ikon Communications, MediaCom and OMD ranked 13th, 15th and 30th respectively. Ad network Adconion ranked 40th. Online marketing company E-Web Marketing was fourth.
“Our focus on our people has allowed our business to grow from three to five offices in the last six months, while delivering an outstanding service to our clients,” Ikon Communications national chief executive Dan Johns said. “We are really happy to be recognised against our ultimate goal of being a great employer.”
Initiatives that saw Ikon the highest-ranking media company on the list include staff receiving a day off for their birthday, late starts after Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day and granting an extra week of leave after four years’ service.
Adconion Media Group president APAC Alex Littlejohn said: “We’re really proud of this achievement and particularly of our talented team who are the key ingredient of being recognised as a great place to work. We foster an environment that encourages our people to be happy, engaged and professional, so they always aim to do the best work and provide our clients with a great reason to work with us.”
