Telstra is kick-starting its biggest marketing push for the year with a campaign that celebrates the excitement of getting a new phone as it overhauls its upgrade service to give customers a new handset halfway through two-year contracts.
Telstra says a third of its customers get new handsets before the end of their two-year contracts and that half would like to be able to get a new phone halfway through.
People want the latest features, want the newest gadgets and get bored with tech quickly. To satisfy the urge for new tech, Telstra is changing the way it offers upgrades. Customers can now get a new device after 12 months and don't have to wait until their two year contract is up.
Telstra is the first network to offer the service.
It is rolling out a marketing push this week. Two 30-second TV ads will be supported by social, digital and outdoor activity, created by DDB Sydney.
The network is also offering some clearer charges for data and text usage.
Telstra director of segment marketing Andy Bateman, said: “We believe in the game changing nature of this offer, and we've had lots of excitement from consumers around it. It is a clear demonstration of Telstra listening to customers, co-creating new products and services with them and bringing them offers that show we really care about delivering relevant, differentiated and market leading solutions”
