Everything is not awesome: Greenpeace attacks Shell via Lego and Game of Thrones

Greenpeace sure knows how to work click bait to gain attention for its campaigns. It's invoking Lego and Game of Thrones, two of the biggest media entertainment brands of the moment to attack Shell and raise awareness of its Save the Arctic campaign.

It is attacking Lego for its partnership with the petrochemical giant with an ad that shows Game of Thrones heartthrob Jon Snow drowning in oil, as a result of the arctic being destroyed. In the ad, no one escapes the Shell crude spill Santa, puppy dogs, polar bears – not even Ned Stark's bastard son Jon Snow who can survive pretty much anything.

The activist group is hoping that by leveraging Lego's popularity and the global obsession with Game of Thrones, it can garner more public awareness and attention to its ongoing lobbying efforts against Shell as part of its Save the Arctic movement.

Greenpeace claims Shell is “selling propaganda at children” via Lego and “polluting their minds”.

It said in a statement: “We love LEGO. You love LEGO. Everyone loves LEGO. But when LEGO's halo effect is being used to sell propaganda to children, especially by an unethical corporation who are busy destroying the natural world our children will inherit, we have to do something.

“Children's imaginations are an unspoilt wilderness. Help us stop Shell polluting them by telling LEGO to stop selling Shell-branded bricks and kits today.”

Greenpeace wants to mobilise Lego fans to sign its petition and pressure Lego to end its partnership with Shell.
