Digital switchover: Ben Cooper swaps The Monkeys for M&C Saatchi

M&C Saatchi has poached The Monkeys' former head of digital Ben Cooper, appointing him to the role of group innovation director.

Cooper's role is a newly-created position at M&C Saatchi, designed to supercharge the agency's digital capabilities.

Working alongside CEO Jaimes Leggett, executive creative director Ben Welsh and chief strategy officer Justin Graham, Cooper will head innovation across the 10 businesses that make up the M&C Saatchi Group.

He will also lead social, mobile and content across the agency.

Cooper's appointment follows the departure of M&C's social strategy director, Tiphereth Gloria, who left the agency at the end of February following a six-month contract role.

Leggett said: “We're thrilled to have Ben joining us. He is world class. Equal parts digital strategist, digital creative and technologist, Ben brings a stellar skill set to the table, which added to his experience and leadership, makes him unique to this market.”

Cooper, who was head of digital at The Monkeys for the past four years and is originally from the UK, said: “Everything has clicked for me. A strong team, aligned ambition and bold clients.

“What really grabbed me was the incredible amount of thought M&C Saatchi has put into where it's heading. They've a strong vision, an empowered team and the smarts to place digital and innovation at the heart of the agency.”
