A team of GroupM employees is currently preparing to take on the Kilimanjaro Challenge 2014 to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, with chairman John Steedman kicking off donations with a $20,000 contribution.

The Kilimanjaro Challenge 2014 takes place from 6 to 17 October 2014 and includes trekking across pine forests and ice fields, over glaciers and through caves, at a distance of 5,895 metres to reach Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

The group taking part in the 12-day challenge, The Media Mountaineers, includes MediaCom's David Reid, Victor Condogeorges and Adrian King, Mindshare's Chris Adams, GroupM's Lee Bustin and Jeremy Hoani, Financeplus' Graham Adamson and Michael Gibbons, along with Phillip Gibbons and David Newton.

"At GroupM, we encourage our people to contribute to the broader community and we support a variety of charities as a company," Steedman said. "It is encouraging to see so many of our committed employees participating in such a worthwhile cause. I am very proud of them and hope they all come back safe and sound."

Financeplus Australia chief executive Graham Adamson said: "Every year more men die of prostate cancer than women die of breast cancer but comparatively, research into prostate cancer is lacking. Prostate cancer remains a significant killer of Australian men, yet awareness and understanding of this disease is poor in the broader community."

All money raised from the challenge will go towards reducing the impact of prostate cancer on Australian men, their families and the wider community. Click here to donate to The Media Mountaineers.

What the donations provide:

• $100 provides six men with a patient pack to help inform and guide their prostate cancer journey
• $250 funds the purchase of exercise equipment to relieve the harmful side-effects of hormone treatment for advanced prostate cancer
• $500 pays for ten men's health ambassadors to educate community groups
• $1,100 provides a library of PCFA resources for two support groups
• $2,500 establishes a peer support group for men diagnosed with prostate cancer
• $5,000 pays for a prostate cancer specialist nursing internship grant
