Retail giant Big W has appointed Saatchi & Saatchi as its creative agency, after parting ways with its agency of 20 years, Y&R's Ideaworks.
The win marks the first major appointment for Saatchi & Saatchi's newly hired chief executive Michael Rebelo.
The win comes after a six-way pitch. AdNews reported yesterday that Big W had split with incumbent Ideaworks.
Rebelo said, “As soon as we heard that the Big W account was up for pitch we instinctively knew they were the right retail partner for us.
“Our appointment to such an iconic Australian brand is a great endorsement of the new team and momentum we’re building at the agency.”
Big W's main media spend in the 12 months to October 2011 was $20.9 million, up from $14.5 million in the prior period, according to Nielsen.
Saatchi & Saatchi has been hampered over the past couple of years with major staff departures, such as executive creative director Steve Back, and account losses, such as David Jones.
