National news agency Australian Associated Press has dropped threats to boycott coverage of the 2011 Rugby World Cup, and has signed a deal with the International Rugby Board.
The deal will see AAP offering its subscribers images and text, but not video. The two other publishers involved in the boycott, Fairfax Media and News Limited, are still in a stand off with the IRB.
The IRB has placed strict coverage restrictions which include limitations on video footage used for news reporting on newspaper sites and bans the use of pre-roll and post-roll online advertising surrounding the footage.
AAP has compromised, saying it was willing to drop video content in order to gain access to the tournament, which start this Friday (9 September).
In order to cover the event, Fairfax and News Limited have entered into deals with individual teams, which will give them access to players and coaches.
