SYDNEY: Austereo's Triple M Sydney grew its overall audience share for the second consecutive survey in the latest Nielsen radio ratings.
Triple M Sydney grew its share by 0.3 points to a 5.3% audience share, while 2Day FM rose by 0.3 points to 10.3%.
Austereo chairman Peter Harvie attributed the growth to the cementing of new shows including The Grill Team which held steady in the breakfast session by retaining its 4.5% audience share.
“The shows are now building force – like all shows, they take time,” Harvie said.
“We’d like them [Triple M Sydney and Melbourne] to be higher than they are at the present time. Our target is obviously to consolidate the core demographic of 25 to 39-year-olds, and also pick up some of the 44 to 55-year-olds along the way,” he added.
DMG’s Nova 96.9 FM dipped in share by 0.1 points to 6.5%, while the network’s new Classic Rock station, which launched on 12 March slid by 0.2 points to 3.2%. The result also reflects listening between 31 January to 11 March to Classic Rock’s predecessor Vega.
On whether the Classic Rock stations pose a threat to Triple M’s format, Harvie said: “It’s early days for them. There could be competition with Triple M, or ARN’s offering’s WSFM and Gold FM.”
The Australian Radio Network’s (ARN) Mix 106.5 grew share by 0.6 points to 4.7%, while WSFM rose by 0.2 points to 6.6%.
