Wallabies stars to wear Reebok

SYDNEY: Reebok is looking to lift its local profile by signing rugby union stars Lote Tuqiri and Matt Giteau to "significant" long-term sponsorship deals this week.

The footwear and sports apparel brand is currently ranked third globally behind Nike and adidas, and hopes the sponsorships will help reflect Reebok’s high global profile in the Australian and New Zealand market.

Reebok marketing manager, Vanessa Knight, said Tuqiri and Giteau had been selected because of their high profiles as rugby union players who "have long successful careers ahead of them".

Knight said the sponsorship was also to show that Reebok "was back" in the football category. "Football is a key area for Reebok, especially in Australia where there are so many codes. It’s important for us to be represented in football and across all sports," said Knight.

Reebok plans to leverage the sponsorships moving into the next rugby season and will incorporate the Wallabies players into marketing campaigns and as spokespersons for the brand.
