Netflix to get down with Baz

Netflix has enlisted the help of Baz Luhrmann in its quest for world domination, with the auteur to produce a “mythic saga of transformation” centred around the birth of hip hop in 1970s New York.

Titled “The Get Down”, the new series will come to all territories, including Australia, in 2016.

Netflix has recently made a lot of noise about beefing up its investment in original content, calling it cheaper to produce in many situations than licensing content from linear TV networks.

It has also been somewhat stymied in the Australian market with original series' such as Orange is the New Black and House of Cards held by Foxtel.

Subscription video on demand rival Stan has also outlined plans to produce original content, with an announcement thought to be just a matter of weeks away.

ABC content onto the Presto platform

In other SVOD news, Presto has been the latest service to pick up ABC content, with the taxpayer-funded channel releasing content such as Summer Heights High, Rake, and Redfern Now onto the platform.

The move follows a similar deal struck with rival SVOD platform Stan in Decemeber.

ABC Commercial's general manager, Jane Ellis, said the deal further solidified ABC's position as a provider of online content while Presto director Sean James sais the deal provided users with a broader range of content.
