Convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby and PR expert Roxy Jacenko are among the first five celebrities to sign on to Seven’s upcoming reality show SAS Australia.

The show was originally titled SAS: Who Dares Wins but was changed to an Australian format due to coronavirus restrictions.

Throughout the program, contestants will be cut off from the rest of the world as they undergo boot camps similar to ones used by Special Air Service (SAS) for its selection process.

Corby, who was released from prison in Bali six years ago after spending nine years behind bars, will star alongside Jacenko, who previously starred in a show for Ten’s Pilot Week, as well as comedian Merrick Watts, retired ironwoman Candice Warner, and rugby player Nick Cummins, known as the Honey Badger.

“We go into the SAS as a number, not a name, which is significant for me because I won’t be Schapelle Corby, I will just be a human being,” Corby told Seven.

“I think I’ll discover that I’m stronger than I am, that I think I am. I’m hoping to discover life and to discover myself.”

The program, produced by Screentime, will premiere on Seven in October. It’s part of Seven’s new lineup of shows in its turnaround strategy which was kicked off by Big Brother earlier this year.

“We have an absolutely killer celebrity cast who are all in for a shock,” says Angus Ross, Seven’s director of programming.

“SAS Australia is no game – it is the toughest test. The course is brutal, and it doesn’t matter who you are or what you do there is no special treatment which makes for utterly engrossing television.”
