BMW Australia is to become the first car manufacturer in Australia to offer DAB+ digital radio in its vehicles from May of this year.

The service will be available for an extra $750 on BMW 7 Series, and $900 on BMW 5 Series, and will be available in Series 6 upon launch.

BMW group managing director Phil Horton said: "BMW ConnectedDrive showcases BMW’s philosophy for enriching driving experience with the most cutting edge in-car technologies available today."

DAB+ will offer improved audio quality and increased content, as well as additional information including track and artist details, news headlines and weatther information.

In March, Commercial Radio Australia released official figures for digital radio in Australia, which indicated that nearly 700,000 people are tuning into digital radio each week, which is 5.6% of all radio listeners.
