The Big Issue has launched a campaign announcing it's now accepting digital payments.

The 'Now Accepting' campaign, created by Town Square, introduces two new payment options, including Airpay, which is a tap and go card terminal and Beem It - an app allowing transactions between the vendor and purchasers' mobile phones.

The Big Issue CEO Steven Persson says it's important for it to address the increasing trend towards cashless payments to protect its vendors.

“This campaign is our proud announcement that vendors are now trading with contactless technologies, as well as cash,” Persson says.

“The campaign has its creative focus firmly where it should be – on the vendors – and we look forward to seeing more Big Issue readers enjoy the magazine, knowing that each transaction is helping marginalised Australians to earn a living in the community."

Town Square ll has been working with The Big Issue pro bono for a number of years and developed the campaign with Carat who secured donated media across TV, cinema, radio, press, out of home and online.

Town Square director Harry Corsham says they wanted a simple campaign to address the complicated digital payment system.

“It’s the simplicity of the campaign that makes it flexible enough to run across the many media channels our friends at Carat have secured from a wide range of supportive media partners," Corsham says.

"We’re proud to be collaborating with so many parties to give vendors the support they need to earn an income.”
