Chicago Uber users got more than they bargained for when they logged into the app last weekend – a chance to get Italian food home delivered by a fleet of grandmas.
Droga5 organised the ad stunt which saw sausage maker Johnsonville team up with Uber to give its users the option of the free food delivery when they logged into the app.
Under the tagline, “The World's Most Elite Sausage Delivery Service” the event saw three “Sausage Nonnas” - nonna being the name for an Italian grandma – sent speeding through the US city in miniature houses towed on the back of utes.
Uber users simply had to select the “Nonnas” option on their app and could track their impending delivery by watching the approach of a tiny house icon.
Sausage rigatoni, lasagna, Italian sausage and meatballs were all on the menu, prepared by good humoured grandmas Gina, Lidia, and Antonia.
The grandmas are seen attempting to make the meals inside their quaint clapboard homes, complete with replicas Italian grandma kitchens, as they barrel down the expressway.
In addition to the deliveries, the campaign served up some amusing images of the Sausage Nonnas going about their business, as well as of an array of happy but slightly bemused customers.
