Cricket Australia has launched a new campaign on the eve of the women's Ashes with a blunt message - Beat England.
The time for niceties are over.
This weekend the women's Ashes begins and a new campaign urges fans to get behind the world's top side as they face off against recent World Cup winners England.
The #BeatEngland campaign is simple and blunt in its approach with star players and young fans starijng into the camera and repeating the words 'beat England' over and over and over again.
Even modern day greats in the men's game, such as Adam Gilchrist and Stephen Smith, chime in.
Cricket Australia GM of events and leagues Anthony Everard said he hopes #BeatEngland will unite Australian fans around the country this Ashes summer.
“The cricketing rivalry between Australia and England is one of the oldest and fiercest in world sport, making an Ashes series an occasion charged with excitement and passion, not just from the players who take to the field but for fans as well," Everard said.
"This campaign taps into this emotion and gives voice to the aspiration that every Australian has when our players take to the field against England. We want to encourage the cricket loving public around the country to use the BeatEngland hashtag to show their support for our teams and hopefully give them the edge to achieve victory this summer.”
The fan-driven campaign will be supported by Cricket Australia across digital channels, through marketing materials, and at-match throughout the summer.
Cricket Australia would like Aussie fans at the game to use the chant to try and drown out the Barmy Army.
AdNews is less optiistic about that prospect than it is about the Aussies clean sweeping the poms in both the men's and women's contests.
