The iconic fearless girl statue has been unveiled in Melbourne by Maurice Blackburn Lawyers ahead of International Women’s Day.
The statue was originally commissioned by US financial services firm State Street Global Advisors in 2017 and created by McCann NYC.
It was placed to face off against the famous ‘charging bull’ statue on Wall Street, also for IWD, and instantly went viral around the globe, reportedly gaining US$7.4 million in publicity.
Now the work has been replicated by US artist Kristen Visbal, with no involvement from the ad agency McCann, and unveiled by Victoria’s Minister for Women Gabrielle Williams yesterday.
Maurice Blackburn, with its partners HESTA and Cbus Super, are showcasing the work in Federation Square to raise public awareness of its fight for gender equality.

The law firm is currently calling on the government to make five key reforms for safer workplaces in Australia as the Human Rights Commission conducts its inquiry into sexual harassment in workplaces.
Since appearing in New York the popular statue has appeared in Osla, Cape Town and now Melbourne.
