A television commercial for the Advanced Medical Institute (AMI) is this year's most complained about ad, according to the Advertising Standards Bureau (ASB).

The AMI ad features a woman using her husband's erect penis as a step ladder and resulted in about 220 complaints.

The day time TVC from Advanced Medical Institute was screened on high rotation during the M-rated noon to 3pm time slot in talk shows and during midday movies.

The top 10 features five television ads, four outdoor ads and an internet ad.

ASB chief executive Fiona Jolly said: "The Ad Standards Board found that three of the 10 most complained about ads breached the AANA Code of Ethics, and advertisers have now withdrawn those ads from use.

"Through its complaints, the community has again shown its concerns about sex, sexuality and nudity content of advertising.

The most complained about ads included AMI (twice), Ashley Madison - Avid Life (twice), VicRoads, Sexpo Pty Ltd, Fernwood Fitness Centres Aust Pty Ltd, AAMI, SCA Hygene Australiasia and Calvin Klein.
