Market research group Kantar, owned by private equity group Bain Capital and WPP, is being broken up and sold, according to multiple reports.

The Financial Times said the owners are shifting from a plan to pursue a stock exchange listing over worries about a weak market for public offerings.

WPP sold a 60% stake to Bain in 2019, valuing Kantar at US$4 billion.

Sky News reported Kantar's owners are exploring the sale of its Worldpanel division.

“A person close to the process said that a sale of the businesses would be a quicker and surer way to raise money than waiting for markets to be favourable for an IPO,” the FT reported.

Kantar in January sold its media division to private equity group HIG Capital.
